What's in a name? If possible, a company's goals and process. Such is the case with Brainetics, a remarkable learning system for both children and adults that transforms the notion of "Athletics for your Brain" into useable, understandable mathematics. Brainetics is the brainchild of Mike Byster, a former trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, who credits his technique for the renewed enthusiasm he experienced in his math students during his 10 years as a volunteer teacher in Chicago area schools. Attendance at the classes became more than the schools could accommodate, so Mike began seeking an alternative instructional method that students could use — on their own schedule — in the comfort of their own homes. The answer was a Brainetics package that includes a DVD, Workbook and easy-to-understand instructions that quickly enables students to begin learning and retaining math strategies. The Brainetics management team includes Mike Byster and Joel Appel, the co-founder and marketing wizard behind Orange Glo International, the makers of OxiClean. Appel and other marketing experts successfully integrated direct response television (DRTV), the Internet and retail to build the Orange Glo and OxiClean brands into two of the more recognizable names in North American advertising. Cesari Direct created the first OxiClean infomercial and subsequently produced and launched more than 10 additional campaigns for Orange Glo International. Orange Glo was acquired by Church & Dwight for a reported $325 million dollars in August 2006. The team at Brainetics combined with Cesari Direct to generate an informative, long-form DRTV program now debuting nationwide. Cesari Direct chose Nancy Sullivan (a cast member on Nickelodeon's hit show Drake & Josh) to host a talk-show style feature that includes conversations with Mike Byster and segments of Mike in the classroom with his students. Mike was featured for a second time on ABC News' 20/20 which helped stimulate early sales and build consumer awareness. The combination of long-form DRTV, targeted public relations and Mike's "Brainstorming Tour" serve as a very efficient method in educating consumers, driving sales, and building the overall brand. The Brainetics team is now fine-tuning the final stages of the product's retail launch.
